I've known Arnie for nearly 30 years. He's the only other lefty I ever played in a band with. He even fired me once! These days he runs his own rehearsal studio in Wollongong NSW and, of course, occasionally pulls out one of his "experienced" old guitars for a jam.
Arnie's trademark '58 Les Paul.. It started life as a right handed "Black Beauty" Custom. Local guitar-making legend Jim Bennett performed a sex-change operation and produced Arnies all-time favourite. You will have to wait for Arnie to die to get this one off him. And even then you'll need a shovel!
Arnie bought this Fender Telecaster Custom new in 1964. Black ones were pretty rare in those days and lefties even more so. It took a year to arrive. The Fender humbucker and stick-on stars were later additions.......
I never thought he would ever buy a guitar that wasn't black but I was wrong! This 2000 model Rickenbacker 660/12 is just beautiful! Light as a feather and easy to play I just love it.
Sooner or later everybody seems to get a Strat. Arnie is no exception. It's a '77 model, stock standard (unusual for him) and of course, it's black!
It's not exactly a left-handed guitar but this Bolivian instrument is part of Arnies collection. It is a Charrangos. Ten strings in five courses, sort of a mandolin on peyote! The body and neck are carved from one piece of wood and the workmanship is superb.
